Live Edge Desk

I love my mother-in-law. I mean, I kinda have to since she is my wife's mother, but I have a different reason. She has owned and operated a very successful retail store in Toronto called SuCasa (your home) for the better part of the last 18 years. Over that time she has amassed some wonderful and loyal customers that are more than willing to ask her opinions regarding furniture. This desk was one of those situations where the client was having a hard time finding the perfect desk for her daughter. She either couldn't find the right one, or the ones she found were way too expensive. Paula (said mother-in-law) suggested to the client that she speak to me and see if I could help her out. Long story short, read the testimonial on the homepage! She got exactly what she wanted, and spent half the money in the process. Her daughter was pumped too since this lives in her bedroom.

The key here was finding the perfect slab of walnut to both fit the space and have enough character that down the road, the client could repurpose it into something else. Of course, my first stop was to Woodchuckers in Toronto and not that I was surprised, they had this Ontario Black Walnut slab up against the wall in the back room, almost like it was waiting there for me to pick it up. One call to my metal fabricator, and the legs were sorted out. I love making this kind of furniture so if you too are having trouble finding the perfect desk or table, get in touch and let's make one. By the way, my mother-in-law loved this desk so much that it led to building those nesting tables and console table for her store!

Below are some additional images that show the process of how I got to the final product. I love process, but I'am also still learning so being able to show how I got there is important. I hope you appreciate it as much as I do. Let's do something together!
